ur doctors have done research, published articles on small animal and equine ocular conditions, and have lectured to veterinarians both locally, nationally and internationally. Together they have a combined total of over 35 years of experience.


Dr. Schorling earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the School of Veterinary Medicine at Louisiana State University, where she also received her Bachelor of Science in Wildlife and Fisheries. She completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Angel Animal Medical Center of Boston, MA. Her combined Ophthalmology Residency and Masters of Science programs were completed at the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. During her residency, Dr. Schorling gained extensive experience examining, treating, and performing surgeries on dogs, cats, horses, and various exotic species. She also completed several research projects involving instruments to test intraocular pressure in dogs and ophthalmic examinations in owls, small ruminants, and tortoises.

Dr. Schorling enjoys examining and treating all species, including wildlife and exotic pets. She feels that the most rewarding aspects of veterinary ophthalmology include being able to perform procedures to restore comfort and vision to animals when they are injured or visually impaired. In addition to extraocular, corneal, and cataract surgeries, Dr. Schorling has special interests in glaucoma treatment and surgery. When she is not working, Dr. Schorling enjoys various outdoor activities, including camping, hiking, horseback riding, and rock climbing.



Dr. Vestre was born, raised and educated in Saskatchewan, Canada, receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. Upon graduation he moved to Champaign-Urbana, Illinois where he completed a small animal rotating internship and an ophthalmology residency at the University of Illinois. He also received a Master of Science degree while at the University of Illinois.

Following his residency Dr. Vestre became Board Certified in Veterinary Ophthalmology and joined the faculty of the School of Veterinary Medicine, Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Indiana. He then established a private referral practice and a specialty center in veterinary ophthalmology in Indianapolis. He moved to San Diego and joined The Eye Clinic For Animals in 2005. Dr. Vestre’s special interests in ophthalmology include inherited ocular disease, ocular neoplasia, and extraocular surgery. When not practicing ophthalmology his interests are golf, bicycling, and travel.


Dr. Marcella Ashton obtained her Veterinary degree (BVSc) from the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 1992 and became a Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (MRCVS) that same year. 
After graduation Dr. Ashton spent twelve months working in a rural equine, farm and small animal practice in Norfolk, England and then completed a year of post graduate training at the Equine Unit of the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket before returning to private small animal practice.
After immigrating to the United States in 2000, she passed her DVM Equivalency exam (Foreign Veterinary Graduate Equivalency Certification Examination) and obtained her National and State veterinary licenses in 2001 before joining a small animal practice in south west Florida. 
Dr Ashton is currently licensed in FL, NV, KS and AZ and CA and is a member of the AVMA, the CVMA, SAVMA, and the ACVO.
 In 2003 she completed an Ophthalmology Internship with Veterinary Ophthalmology Services in Las Vegas, Nevada, followed by an Ophthalmology Clerkship in 2005 with Eye Care for Animals at Southern Arizona Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center in Tucson, Arizona.
She completed a 3 year comparative ophthalmology residency program with Eye Care For Animals in Tucson and has been a boarded Diplomate of the American College of Ophthalmologists (DACVO) since 2008.  
Dr. Ashton practiced in Tucson for 3 additional years after completing her residency seeing small animal, equine and avian patients and performed charitable services for various Tucson wildlife rehabilitation centers, Reid Park Zoo and the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum.  
Dr. Ashton's interests include corneal and cataract surgery.
Dr. Ashton enjoys wildlife conservation, 4x4 off roading, travelling to her homeland South Africa as well as sailing and diving and previously worked in the Cayman Islands as a dive instructor. She is looking forward to enjoying the great weather and outdoor activities that San Diego and Southern California offer with her husband and family.
